Weekend Love!

Well, we survived the first week of daycare and full-time, back-to-work-with-a-3-month-backlog Momma.

I think survived is probably the best terminology.

There was nothing pretty about it, and there were more tears, feelings of guilt, and baby cuddles with a side of Chardonnay then I’d really care to admit. There were also 8:30 bedtimes, a little bickering between the parents, and more then a few moments of wallowing in self-pity. MegaLottery winners that win it and spend it, I’m givin’ you the stink eye.

However, I’m a firm believer that these things get easier with time, and as we get more into a routine. If anything, the past 3 months has taught me that I’m really not stay-at-home mom material. I have nothing but respect for those of you that go that route- by the end, I was craving the schedule of my job, the adult interaction and complex problem-solving that it requires.

But, that doesn’t mean that it was a piece of cake to drop my baby off with a daycare provider that I’ve met 3 times, and spend 9 hours away from her wondering if she’s having a total meltdown, has her diaper been changed, or is she in the swing having a helluva good time?

So, we will put one foot in front of the other, pack our Vera Bradley lunch boxes (her’s with bottles, mine with rabbit food), and forge ahead into this new week. Because, as Grammy told me yesterday, ‘you’ve GOT to walk to take some of that fat off’.

OMG. Can’t handle it.

So we spent our weekend doing errands and stuff on Saturday, so Sunday could be low-key filled with a walk to Starbucks, some grilling and week meal preps. We spent a little time in the garden, weeding, clipping herbs, and planting the last few herbs from Lowe’s that were sooooo overwatered that they’ve been sitting outside for the week and are still damp…

Here are some pictures from our weekend! I hope that your’s was equally productive and relaxing!

Did I happen to mention the MASSIVE piss stain that we found when we pulled up the rug last weekend to make way for the living room makeover?! No? Hmmm… it must have been because I was so PISSED OFF! Which, after these last few months, I do know is better then being pissed on.

Anyway, Cruzan had been using the coffee table as his personal toilet- not because he wasn’t being let out at regular intervals, but because he was pissed that we brought a screaming, demanding, erratically moving baby into his house.

So, one day while we were doing tummy time on the floor, I started smelling gross things, only to find that the rug and floor had been completely ruined. We’ve managed to bleach the floor and kill all of the bacteria and smell, but this weekend we also had to stain and seal the repair work. We are still trying to find the right color for ’1960s Orange Hardwood’, but it looks so much better than before!

A little gift for the hubby! Periodic table magnets from Target- already being put to good use on our fridge!

And, Maddie’s new way to view the world! She loves to stand up and look around at everything!

Until Wednesday…

XO, Mer

Oh yeah, you read that right, TGIFF. You can edit your own vocab for that second ‘f’!

It’s been one of those weeks.

Motherhood is tough, exhausting and has brought me to tears more than once this week. For all you bloggers out there who babble about the bullshit of it being the sweetest moments of your life, I think you need to get a life. More on that later, though. When I’ve had a few glasses of wine and can let me thoughts on early motherhood fly. I’m hoping what everyone says is true- that the memories fade to bliss over time!

Don’t get me wrong, I love the ‘Madster’ to pieces, so much so that I washed all of her new clothes from Gigi immediately, with the jeans that she peed all over, and promptly turned them all light blue. I need a laundry fairy in my life real bad…

Yesterday, while traveling, we had quite an adventure- having her strapped in the Moby wrap, sound asleep and trying to figure out how to pee, pull up my pants and wash my hands… With a crammed full diaper bag, a stroller over my shoulder and a sleeping baby strapped to my chest. Oh lord, honestly, I cried more than her. She slept through the entire trip with only one little peep as we started the decent.

Now we are at the GPs, while Maddie gets maximum attention and Momma fades into the background with her wine and iPad for a mental break! One I didn’t know I needed until I got here!

The blog has been quiet this past week, cause Brian’s been working hard, I’ve been working hard, and the Madster is working to make chaos!

My hairdresser asked on Tuesday if ‘I’m loving motherhood?’…

Truth: I’m more exhausted, more emotional and more stressed then I can ever remember. My jeans button, but not comfortably, my energy is lagging and I’m freaking out about going back to work full-time.

There I said it.

I love my daughter, I love seeing my husband as a Daddy, and I’m looking forward to all of our adventures to come… But, I could use a few more hours of sleep, fewer hissy fits, and a few pounds to melt away…

So on that note, I’m going to enjoy watching Maddie get spoiled, while I enjoy a few quiet moments, a laundry fairy (who is already working on the blue clothes!), and a big old’ glass of wine on the deck.

To all you Mommas out there, I raise my glass to the amazing job that you do, however you do it and whatever you do to make it work for you.

Pictures from the weekend!

Hope you had a great weekend! My sister (Aunt Meg!) and my college roommate (Aunt Steph) were visiting, so there was lots of Maddie cuddling, hanging in yoga pants and wine drinking!

A perfect weekend in my book!

I’m headed to a new Moms play group this morning, so here are a few pictures to tide you over until I can write a longer post (maybe never??)…

This last one is because Maddie wants you to see how much her feet have grown- those socks used to be too small and now her heel is at the end of that pink polka dot! Lol and check out those cheeks!

1 Month

Dear Madison,

Wow- how has it already been a month!

Happy 1 month birthday!

This month has been a roller coaster.  Daddy and I had no idea the amount of love that you would add to our lives.

We’ve traveled the world together, set and met academic and career goals, yet sitting on the couch cuddling with you brings a level of fulfillment and contentment that we could have never expected!

We joke about starting calculus classes next week and college applications the week after, but the truth is we are just excited to watch you grow, learn and explore.  Just this week you’ve discovered how to get your fingers into your mouth, and how to escalate the volume of your screams to get IMMEDIATE attention!

You’ve taught us a few things too.  Giving you 6 ounces of formula means that we’ll be wearing at least 3 of them in a short amount of time.  Diaper changes MUST. BE. QUICK.  Or, everyone and everything will end up damp!  And, you are not a morning person.  God bless Daddy, for taking morning duty and getting you dressed, face washed and prepped for the first feeding, because you scream the entire way through it- and then promptly go back to sleep for another 3-4 hours!

We are more tired and more in love then we’ve ever been in our entire lives, and we wouldn’t change a minute of it (ok, well maybe that horrific Boston Marathon bomber!).

Everyone says you are the most beautiful baby they’ve ever seen- and we couldn’t agree more!  Those big blue eyes make us melt every time.  You already have Daddy wrapped around your tiny finger, and I’m guessing you’ll have already figured that out by the time you are able to read this!  He’s already nervous that you immediately grab the diamond necklace he gave me as a wedding present or the bracelet he gave me for your birth when I pick you up- you’ve got great taste already (you SO get that from me!).

It was a long, challenging 9 month wait to meet you, but it was worth every second.  I’m enjoying every cuddle I can and can’t wait to see what the next month holds.

With love,

 1 Week

Maddie’s First Photo Shoot!

Are you getting sick of my pictures yet?

Too bad :)

Here is a sneak peek of Maddie’s first photo shoot (with our friend Dave!).

Aren’t they fantastic?! Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she’s the cutest baby ever (ok, slightly biased here!).

I’m trying to figure out where to take the blog now, so stay tuned in the coming days and weeks as I get settled into my new Mommy role and learn to balance my old hobbies (blogging, crafting, etc) with my new responsibilities (taking care of the cutest infant on the block).

I’m going to put together some posts on our hospital stay and c-section experience, plus some ‘must-haves’ for the first few weeks (assuming we manage to get into the hang of things and get more then 2-3 hours of sleep!!!). Right now, I can’t even find the cord to my laptop to charge it and download the pictures from my camera!
