Dear Maddie: 4 months

Dear Maddie,

Wow, how the past 4 months have flown by!

You are so awake, alert and anxious to take in every detail around you! You watch everything and we can just see the wheels turning as you take it all in!

You’ve learned to scream at daycare (thank you, 3 year old girls!), and you follow each scream with a giggle, because you are just so darn proud of your new skill.

I’m afraid the ‘animal lover’ gene (a bad gene according to my grandmother), might have been passed on to you! Some of your longest conversations have been with Cruzan, who sits perfectly still, listens to every word and is as memorized by you, as you are of him!

You had your doctors appointment last week, and she suggested we start you on some oatmeal, since you are sucking down bottles like you in ‘da club. It’s been a fun, messy adventure! You love that the spoon goes in your mouth, but you don’t really get that whole ‘swallow’ thing, which leaves both of us a sticky mess!

You’ve been a real trooper this month and I’m so grateful. My return to work, marked your start of daycare and you’ve been so happy with Ms. Trish, eating like a champ and only taking short naps (so you sleep through the night for us!).

You’ve grown in leaps and bounds this past month, and I can only imagine what the future holds! Keep those big smiles coming, followed by the adorable sound of your giggles, and you’ll have one happy Momma!

Love,
Mom

P.S. you met lots of ‘boys’ this month. Don’t get any ideas about boyfriends… ;)

Bridal Shower Roadtrip!

Ahhh… roadtrips!

I used to love them… it meant stopping in new places, pushing through the drive to get to an exciting stop or destination, singing along to fun music, eating at funky places, etc.

Now it means that we pack 3xs more shit then we might need, music is played softly so it doesn’t disturb the ‘backseat beast’ (who finally passed out after screaming through the entire state of Connecticut) and a rush to get to the destination in a fit of stress and exhaustion.

Oh how times have changed…

Fortunately, we didn’t have too many challenges this weekend, and once we got there and settled in, I was able to relax a bit and enjoy the festivities!

We had a lovely Friday with GiGi, lunching and shopping for needlepoint (Maddie WILL BE a needlepointed.  Everything else is negotiable.).

Then I had a total meltdown, when I tried on the dress I had packed for the shower and both Mom and Meg cringed.  LOL.  And, then asked what the other options were.

Hmmm… black yoga pants and an old navy maternity tank top with a stain of some variety down the front?

Fueled by a large glass of wine, my sister kindly ran me over to her Macy’s (open to 9:30pm on a Friday!) and picked me out a dress on the sale rack- marked down from $110 to $22.  Done and Done.

I tried to find it online and couldn’t, but check out your Macy’s right now- great sales!

The shower was lovely- a wonderful group of Meg and Lance’s family and friends.

Meg asked that I not take too many pictures to post on the blog, so out of respect to her wishes, I just snapped a few of the decorations (and one cute baby one!).  I’ll start the negotiating now to be able to take more at the wedding!

Saturday night, we had a lovely date night at Iron Hill Brewery.  Our first time out alone since we had Maddie.  We talked about her the entire time, and I only checked my phone once (and I had a text from my in-laws about her, so that’s justified!).

It was really fun to just be with the hubby though, and we walked down Main Street, Newark, DE reminiscing about our time there.

Sunday morning brought a few moments of baby giggles before it was time to hit the road.

Our usual 6 hour trip now takes closer to 9 with stops to feed the baby and stretch legs, so I’m always anxious to get on the road early.  Fortunately, traffic was only heavy towards Boston and it went smoothly.  4 loads of laundry later, and this Momma dropped into a tired sleep, ready to face the week.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

XO, Mer

Name Change?

So, here’s the thing…

I’m a little worried about how I’m going to balance everything (motherhood, career, stitching, shopping, drinking wine, matron of honor-ing) in the coming months, so I’m thinking I’m going to make a change.

A name change.

From Mer’s World to…

Tales of a Working Mom!

What do you think?

I need some sort of tagline to go with it though… any ideas?

So far, I’ve come up with:

… Everything from suits to sippy cups

… Balancing career, kids, and chaos

…Stories of shopping, stitching and sippy cups

Any of those grab you? Any other ideas?

I’m also going to move to MWF posting schedule. I’ll develop a new Facebook page that you can like and follow for all of the updates and new posts!

But, worry not, you’ll find the content the same. Just a different name, hopefully a different look and lots of the usual babbling that I normally do!

If you typically find this page from my personal page, be sure and like the new Facebook page when it’s developed, because I’m going to try and build a little distance from my personal page and the new blog! Realizing that’s more and more important with Maddie in our lives!

And, one last question for you-

What keeps you reading? The Maddie updates? The snarky comments? What topics do you really like and what is ‘eh’ to you?

Regardless of the answer, thanks so much for reading and all of your support during this crazy time in our lives!

Argh… Monday!

Where did the weekend go?!

Did you have a nice weekend?  A wonderful Sunday celebrating the Fathers in your life?!

We sure did- although it went too fast, and I think I was a little too tired to really recharge my batteries!

It’s wonderful having Brian around on the weekends, but then I race around like a crazy person trying to clean the house, finish all the laundry, get all the projects I have been thinking about done and make sure we are prepared for the week!  And, exhausted.

Add that to some nerves about Maddie starting daycare and me returning to work, and it’s been a bit of a roller coaster (of hormonal emotion) around here.

Oh, and did I mention that my neighbors are out of town and whoever is taking care of their dog has just been leaving her outside to bark, and bark, and bark, and bark?

So, I think the bottom line is that I hope your Monday is going better than mine- fewer tears, more hours of sleep and a big, venti iced latte.

Maddie and I are off shopping today- she’s started to outgrown her 3 month sleepers, so we are in search or some bigger/longer ones!  Ahhh… my baby is growing up!

What are your favorites places to shop for kids clothes?!  I’ve been looking at Gap, Old Navy and Nordstrom online, but having a hard time with figuring out her sizing.  Of course, when I go in person, they don’t have the same sales as online!  Then I get frustrated and just buy it all at Target!

Here are a few photos from my weekend, to break up this wordy post!

Now What?

To be honest, my days are kinda filled with ‘now what?’ moments…

When Maddie screams her head off and has a full belly and a clean diaper…

Now what?

When the dogs destroy three knitting projects and all of the yarn I had purchased for upcoming projects…

Now what?

When your pregnancy is over, you’re not really ready to think about weight loss programs and you have no time to needlepoint… oh yeah, and you have no idea what to blog about…

Now what?

More then 100,000 of you have read Mer’s World since I started this little hobby, and so I ask you- now what?

What do you want to read about?  What do you really enjoy?

Do you like every day posts, once a week?

Talking about post-baby life?  Needlepoint?  Cooking? Shopping?

What has kept you coming back for more?

Give me some inspiration, friends!
