Ignore me while I do my ‘Friday happy dance’ around the living room.

What a flippin’ week.

Maddie has been on a rip and tear, which has resulted in calls from daycare 3 of the 4 days this week (so far!).  Teething?  Tummy virus?  General bitchiness?  Who knows?

So, that’s led to some stressful days.  Fortunately, HRH FAL (Her Royal Highness Princess Fusses A Lot), has been sleeping pretty well at night.  A little fussy to get to sleep, but she manages to stay asleep for a good period of time at night.

I don’t feel like I’ve got my ‘rhythm’ back at work, and this week sure didn’t help with lots on my plate, plus calls from daycare and a fussy baby in the evenings.

I thought I might be able to sneak in Maddie’s 4 month pictures last night.  Boy, was I wrong.  I didn’t even try.  She had a meltdown over a diaper change- can you even imagine the meltdown over an outfit change?

I can’t believe it’s been 4 months.  And, this week also marks a year since I peed on six sticks (because my husband didn’t believe the first 5) and our whole world changed!  What a ride it’s been…

So, with that, I’m off to take the last few minutes before 6am and waste it blissfully with some coffee and some Pinterest

Hope you have a lovely weekend and I’ll be back next week with Maddie’s 4 month update and mine!  Woohoo!

XO, Mer

These were the only pictures that I managed to get last night, on the way upstairs to change the diaper, where the meltdown happened… :-)  Also, ignore the fact that I need a cut/color.  How do you Moms with great hair find the time for basic maintenance?

Dear Maddie: 3 Months

Dear Maddie,

3 months old- and how the time flew!

It’s Sunday afternoon and I am prepping this letter to you, while sitting in your new playroom with tears streaming down my face.

We’ve spent pretty much every moment of the last 3 months together.  It’s been challenging, scary, exciting, overwhelming and far more rewarding then I ever imagined.  Tomorrow we’ll start a new routine together, with you heading to daycare and me heading back to the office.  So far you’ve been an incredibly happy-go-lucky baby, so I’m hoping that extends to a new routine and meeting new people!

Your personality is developing more and more every day and you aren’t afraid to tell us what you like and don’t like, and when you are happy or unhappy.

You greet me every morning with the biggest smile (and a large amount of drool!) and you chatter away at me the entire time we pick out an outfit and get you cleaned up and ready for the day.

You love watching the dogs and cats play around you.  You’ve started trying to roll over on your playmat and pretty much anything that makes it into your hands goes straight into your mouth.

You had your 3 month check-up and you are growing like a weed!  Most of your 3 months clothes are too short in length, but the 6 month ones are too big around the waist!  Thank goodness it’s summer- you are happiest in a romper with bare feet!  No pants or shoes for you, thankyouverymuch.

This month, you took your first plane ride to visit your grandparents in MD.  You were a champ with traveling and visiting a new place, but you really left them exhausted!

We spent the 4th of July celebrating at home with friends and family, but really this last month has been about hanging out, cuddling and enjoying every moment!

You’ve grown and changed so much in these last 4 weeks, I can only imagine what is going to happen next!

It will be an adventure, that’s for sure!

Lots of love,

And for funsies…

A little video of our chat at the end of the photo shoot!

P.S. A special HAPPY 35th ANNIVERSARY to my parents!  You are a wonderful example of what we hope our marriage will be in 30 years… Have a great day! XOXO

P.P.S.  Your gift is a grandchild.

2 months!

Dear Madison,

I can’t believe it’s been two months.  You have grown and changed so much!

You’ve discovered your hands (and fit them into your mouth every chance you get!).

You ‘talk’ all the time- to me, to Daddy, to the animals, to the mobile, to anyone that will listen.

And, do you have a lot to say!  You are very good about letting us know what you need- and when we’ve got it totally wrong and are not doing things to your standards or expectations.  I’m pretty sure the neighbors 3 blocks over can also hear your protests (note: we’re doing the best we can!).

You had your 2 month check-up and you were quiet and patient until it was time for your vaccines.  Then both you and I burst into tears!  But, you were a champ and were smily and cooing just an hour later.

You met lots of new people this month- Daddy’s family had a big picnic to welcome you to the family and you were so well behaved (minus a bit of fussing and sleeping…).  You also met lots of our ‘Boston family’ this month- we went on lots of adventures around town and hit many of my favorite shopping spots!  I think you got the shopping gene from my side of the family- your eyes get really big when we walk into a store and you turn your head left and right so fast to take everything in!

You’ve started smiling, laughing and cooing at us!  It amazes me how you can go from a happy, smiling baby to HANGRY monster in no time!  While you are patient in the Nordstrom shoe department, you ARE NOT the slightest bit patient when waiting for us to prepare a bottle.  You know what you want and when you want it!  We are a little afraid of what that will mean for the teenage years, but we’ll discuss that at a later date.

Today I packed away a lot of your newborn and 0-3 month clothes (and shed a few tears!).  You are growing like crazy and we are shopping like crazy doing our best to keep up.  You fall asleep any time we try and do tummy time, but if we hold you ‘standing up’ then you can’t get enough of looking around and taking it all in!

You love your Bumbo seat, and I’m having a great time trading funny photos with my friend Tara, and your (soon-to-be) best friend, Parker.  Tara made this for you:

Your Grandma’s are best friends (and will teach you how to get into lots of trouble at the needlepoint shop and Nordstrom)You are a little young to get the whole ‘friends’ thing, but I’m thinking you’ll be bestest friends.

I can’t wait to see what the next month brings- you’ve already grown and changed so much in these last few weeks, that I can’t even wrap my head around what’s next!

All my love,

And the outtakes:

1 Month

Dear Madison,

Wow- how has it already been a month!

Happy 1 month birthday!

This month has been a roller coaster.  Daddy and I had no idea the amount of love that you would add to our lives.

We’ve traveled the world together, set and met academic and career goals, yet sitting on the couch cuddling with you brings a level of fulfillment and contentment that we could have never expected!

We joke about starting calculus classes next week and college applications the week after, but the truth is we are just excited to watch you grow, learn and explore.  Just this week you’ve discovered how to get your fingers into your mouth, and how to escalate the volume of your screams to get IMMEDIATE attention!

You’ve taught us a few things too.  Giving you 6 ounces of formula means that we’ll be wearing at least 3 of them in a short amount of time.  Diaper changes MUST. BE. QUICK.  Or, everyone and everything will end up damp!  And, you are not a morning person.  God bless Daddy, for taking morning duty and getting you dressed, face washed and prepped for the first feeding, because you scream the entire way through it- and then promptly go back to sleep for another 3-4 hours!

We are more tired and more in love then we’ve ever been in our entire lives, and we wouldn’t change a minute of it (ok, well maybe that horrific Boston Marathon bomber!).

Everyone says you are the most beautiful baby they’ve ever seen- and we couldn’t agree more!  Those big blue eyes make us melt every time.  You already have Daddy wrapped around your tiny finger, and I’m guessing you’ll have already figured that out by the time you are able to read this!  He’s already nervous that you immediately grab the diamond necklace he gave me as a wedding present or the bracelet he gave me for your birth when I pick you up- you’ve got great taste already (you SO get that from me!).

It was a long, challenging 9 month wait to meet you, but it was worth every second.  I’m enjoying every cuddle I can and can’t wait to see what the next month holds.

With love,

 1 Week

Maddie’s First Photo Shoot!

Are you getting sick of my pictures yet?

Too bad :)

Here is a sneak peek of Maddie’s first photo shoot (with our friend Dave!).

Aren’t they fantastic?! Of course, it doesn’t hurt that she’s the cutest baby ever (ok, slightly biased here!).

I’m trying to figure out where to take the blog now, so stay tuned in the coming days and weeks as I get settled into my new Mommy role and learn to balance my old hobbies (blogging, crafting, etc) with my new responsibilities (taking care of the cutest infant on the block).

I’m going to put together some posts on our hospital stay and c-section experience, plus some ‘must-haves’ for the first few weeks (assuming we manage to get into the hang of things and get more then 2-3 hours of sleep!!!). Right now, I can’t even find the cord to my laptop to charge it and download the pictures from my camera!
